When attorney Ricardo "Ric" R. Godinez returned to his home town of McAllen, Texas, to open a law practice, he became the latest in a long line of family members to serve the people of the Rio Grande Valley. The Godinez name has been known and respected in South Texas for nearly 90 years.

Ric's grandfather, Fortino Bedoy Godinez, and his father, Carlos Godinez, were both doctors in the McAllen-Pharr area. The Godinez name was associated with community leadership and acts of caring. In the 1940s, Fortino and his wife Adelina assisted in forming the Association Latina Americana (ALA), an organization that raised money for the needy. During the polio epidemic in the 1940s and '50s, the ALA provided a free clinic to help those who had contracted the disease and to give instructions on how to care for those afflicted. Ric's parents have also been very active in public service by volunteering for various local community and state organizations, boards and professional associations, and even serving in elected positions.

Ric Godinez has continued these traditions of community and public service, and caring for the less fortunate. Ric was twice elected to the McAllen City Commission, and while serving the residents of McAllen between 2001 and 2005, contributed significantly to the improvement of McAllen's quality of life by helping create new parks, public facilities, and thousands of new jobs and businesses. Ric has also served on numerous area boards and community organizations, including the McAllen Boys and Girls Club, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, the Advocacy Resource Center for Housing, the Hidalgo County Young Lawyers Association and the Hidalgo County Bar Association.
